Religious tourism

Religious tourism in Catamarca invites visitors to explore emblematic sites steeped in spirituality and tradition. The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley, with its imposing architecture, is the epicenter of Marian devotion in the province, complemented by the Museum of the Virgin, which safeguards her history and legacy. The Grotto of the Virgin, located in a natural setting, is a place for reflection and pilgrimage.

Furthermore, in the town of Fray Mamerto Esquiú, one can visit the birthplace of the Catamarca-born Blessed, a site steeped in history that offers insights into his life and religious legacy.

The Gaucho Pilgrimage, a manifestation of faith and culture, brings together devotees who travel on horseback along the roads in honor of the Virgin, on the Sunday before the Holy Week procession.

Every year, riders from the province, gaucho groups from neighboring towns, and devotees from Tucumán, La Rioja, Santiago del Estero, Jujuy, Salta, and Córdoba join this Marian pilgrimage. On horseback, in sulkies, carrying banners and flags, they travel hundreds of kilometers over several days, defying time and distance in honor of the Virgin of the Valley.
