Pumice Stone Field

A 25-km stretch of white rock, nestled in the vastness of the Catamarca Puna at over 3,000 meters above sea level, is the result of volcanic activity, with formations that defy imagination.

Considered one of the most incredible deserts in the world, it is located near the small town of El Peñón, in Antofagasta de la Sierra, 550 kilometers from San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. The journey is made in 4x4 vehicles with a guide or by booking tours. There is an entrance fee.
There are three access routes: from El Peñón, a 35-km stretch; from the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra, 63 km away; and from Fiambalá, a longer route that crosses the Las Papas River and must be undertaken with expert guides. This last option is only available from April to October.
