Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley, located in the center of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, is one of the city's main tourist and religious attractions. Completed by architect Luis Caravati in 1869, it was declared a national monument in 1941.

It is notable for its Neo-Renaissance architecture, with a capacity to hold 3,500 people and a surface area of 2,288 square meters.

The main altar, made of white Carrara marble, is one of the basilica's exquisitely ornate treasures. Visitors can also access the Camarín, a small chapel integrated into the structure and located at the top of the cathedral, where they can view the original image of Our Lady of the Valley up close and enjoy an intimate atmosphere for prayer.

Our Lady of the Valley is the Patron Saint of Catamarca and of Argentine Tourism, and is the focus of numerous and heartfelt acts of faith.
